GC chromatograms of pentylesters (up) and mthylesters.

Comments

Elution of esters was obtained using the same GC conditions: capillary column RTX-2330, 60 m; i.d. 0,25 mm; f.t. 0,2 micron. Gas carrier: helium at constant flow of 2 ml/min.; FID temperture:250 °C. Column program: 50 °C for 3 min; increment 8°C/min to 240, hold for 2 min. Injection 1 microL by using PTV.

Discovery

It was the first time that butter triglycerides were transesterified in a one step reaction as pentylesters. The adavantages of this analysis in respect of methyl esters were that a major recovery of short chain fatty acids (SCFA) was observed and that standard deviation associated to them was lowered.
